Are you Connecting with Target Customers?

How do you plan on connecting if you don’t really know your target customer?

  • What is their age range and where are they located?
  • Race? Education Level? Income Level?
  • How many of them are there?
  • How do they get information?  TV? Newspaper? Internet?
  • Do they prefer PC or mobile devices?
  • Do they use social media?  If so, which ones?  How often?
  • What percentage can you take away from your competition?
  • What percentage of their money do they spend on your type of service or product?

You can do the research yourself! 

The U.S. Government is fantastic at capturing statistics.  You can find out just about anything you need to know about the demographics of your target customer without leaving the comfort of your favorite chair and WI-FI connection.  If you are the adventurous type, you can always get a group of people (potential customers) together at a Baltimore eating establishment and just ask them what kinds of services or products they need.  Good business is really all about filling the needs of customers.  That’s what gets you paid.

Build it and they will come…

Some aspiring entrepreneurs are under the impression that if they come up with a cool idea, people will just show up with money.  This happens very rarely.  You have to know how to connect with your target audience so that they will pay attention to your message.  You should take the time to research your target group of consumers and figure out what needs they have and how much they will probably pay you to fill them.  If they can pay you at a level that allows you to pay all your expenses and have some money left over, then that’s a halfway decent business model and the beginnings of a good business plan.

What’s stopping you from starting? 

Maybe it’s fear? Or maybe you don’t like research or talking to people.  Well, if not you, then someone else is going to have to do the research in order to produce an effective marketing strategy.  If you don’t put in the time and run the numbers, you are just guessing.

Before you start throwing out old tech, just a few words of advice.  Please use numbers to define the success of your campaigns.  Please use numbers to determine if it is time to change a process or purchase new technology.  Please use numbers to set goals for your digital marketing strategy.  Without numbers, it is just based on feelings.

Our attendees are a racially diverse group of Baltimore’s working professionals, aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners.  Our attendees are financially successful, well educated and normally between the ages of 30 and 60.  The group is a mixture of single and married people, all looking for positive interactions and learning opportunities in a fun, social environment. As of 1/24/14, our professional network group has over 620 active members.

Currently, many of our events are held at Teavolve in Harbor East.  However, other events occur throughout the city.  If you would like to offer your venue for an event, please let us know.
